Community
Based-Supports

JESPY’s Community-Based Supports Program provides 1:1 assistance for clients in the areas daily & social living and personal development. The program also provides guidance with increased community participation and activity learning.

With independence and a demonstrated knowledge of life skills at the forefront, a number of JESPY clients have the ability to live independently. With supports provided by JESPY, clients have the option to live in one of several South Orange-located condominiums or apartments.

Because their apartments are not (or are outside of) JESPY-owned or managed buildings, clients who live in these residences are referred to at outclients. The apartments they reside in are privately leased.

The majority of outclients have begun living independently after participating in the JESPY Shared Housing Program. Other participants come to JESPY via outside living arrangements or from other agencies.

Provided Services include:
  • Group and individual support counseling
  • Assistance in securing apartments
  • Referrals to: moving companies, cleaning services (if necessary), cable, phone, and utilities services
  • Budgeting/Money management
  • Menu planning/food shopping/cooking skills
  • Advocating for clients during interactions with landlords/building managers
  • Community integration
  • Social relationship support
  • Crisis intervention

Each client is supported by a case manager who provides 1:1 guidance and overall supervision. Case managers meet with clients once or twice per week to assist them with their process toward living independently. Clients are also assigned living skills counselors who provide clients with training in areas of need.
